چکیده

The endemic New Caledonian Solmsia Baill. (Thymelaeaceae Juss.: Octolepidoideae Gilg) was founded in 1871 on two species, S. calophylla and chrysophylla Over the past 150 years, genus has received little attention taxonomically or otherwise. morphological, ecological distribution information gathered from 484 herbarium specimens indicate that currently recognized species (evaluated as morphogroups) exhibit continuous, overlapping variation based statistical multivariate analyses. Both partially sympatric morphogroups are treated here conspecific under calophylla, lectotype of genus, formal recognition either group at any infraspecific rank is deemed unnecessary. recircumscribed, single completely restricted to Grande Terre, where it occurs maquis vegetation ultramafic rocks (peridotite serpentinite) some form ferrallitic soil (ferralsols/oxisols). Lectotypes, selected a total c. 55 sheets representing probable possible syntypes, designated for both Baillon's binomials. Full descriptions provided accompanied by illustrations, photographs, map, preliminary IUCN conservation assessment Near Threatened (NT). Morphological biogeographical relationships discussed phylogenetic context other Octolepidoideae, basal subfamily Thymelaeaceae, along with closely related, but massively disjunct, Guayana Shield-centered Tepuianthus Maguire & Steyerm. (formerly Tepuianthaceae Steyerm.). Dehiscence capsule size maturity also confirmed documented, respectively, first time Deltaria Steenis, another poorly known monospecific genus.
